Common Questions about CBD – Skincare Products Answered!

While the average UK consumer is becoming more familiar with CBD oils, CBD skincare is still a bit of a mystery. Today we’re answering some of the most common questions about CBD skincare products.

Do CBD skincare products actually work?

With inflammation at the root of almost everything – from chronic pain to ageing – CBD extracts and oils may ease aches, soothe stress and prolong your skins health. CBD skincare products can support a wide variety of skincare issues, but CBD is not a ‘cure-all.’

What do CBD skincare products help with?

CBD skincare products may help to reduceinflammation, redness, signs of stress and ageing, acne and eczema, and also to support cell-renewal.

Studies have shown that CBD has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties effects. Alongside redness or swelling of the skin, inflammation plays a role in skin dryness, acne and signs of ageing. Therefore, using CBD oil in skincare can be a clever and natural way to help with these issues.

And of course, when CBD is combined with other essential skincare ingredients, such as natural herbs and extracts, omega oils and vitamins, the overall product will have an ‘entourage effect’ – allowing your skin to benefit from the combined overall effect of premium ingredients.

Are CBD beauty and skincare products legal?

In the UK, any product containing CBD is completely legal – as long as it contains less than 0.2% THC (the chemical compound found in marijuana that gets you ‘high’.) So, as long as you’re not buying a CBD product that contains THC, then it is legal.

Do CBD skincare products work better than ordinary cosmetics?

This depends on what problem you’re trying to solve. If you’re looking to achieve rejuvenated, restored skin and maintain a youthful glow, then potentially yes! As we’ve already mentioned, CBD works to reduce inflammation and signs of ageing, and helps to stimulate skin cell renewal. When combined with premium ingredients, you’ll receive the benefits of an ordinary skincare or beauty product, with an added boost from CBD.

Is there anything I should look out for?

Always buy CBD products from a trustworthy retailer. Many retailers have been criticised for spreading misinformation about their CBDproducts. Be sure to check the ingredients, make sure you’re not buying something that contains THC and choose products with a high-concentration of CBD. We recommend never buying a skincare or beauty product with less than 1% CBD concentration. A reputable retailer should publish their lab test results. You’ll find our ULU Lab Test Results here.

What about hemp oil beauty products?

Hemp oil skincare and beauty products do not contain any CBD. CBD oil comes from the leaves, stems and flowers of the hemp plant while hemp oil comes from the seeds of the plant – which do not contain CBD. So, if you’re buying a product that advertises ‘hemp oil’ it will not naturally contain cannabidiol. Of course, hemp oil can still have some benefits for your skin and hair, but not the benefits that come from CBD. Always remember to check the exact ingredients!

Are there any side-effects?

As with any skincare or beauty product, there is a small risk of an allergic or adverse reaction to any of the ingredients included. However, this risk is very low.

The overwhelming majority of people who use CBD skincare products have not reported any unpleasant side-effects. Always test any skincare or beauty products you buy on a small patch of skin first

What types of CBD skincare products can I buy?

Using CBD oil in skincare has become increasingly popular. This means that there are almost as many CBD skincare products on the market as there are ordinary skincare products. These include CBD balmsserumscreams and body oils among many others!

What should I look for when buying CBD products?

As always, it’s important to stay informed when buying any kind of CBD product. So, you should always make sure to do your research:

  • Think about the skincare issue you’re trying to solve and make sure that it’s something that can be helped by CBD.
  • Make sure to research the other ingredients in the product to understand their benefits
  • Research the company you’re purchasing from. Read reviews online and check that the company are willing to give product information freely. (At ULU, we have our products independently lab-tested so you can be confident of their purity and quality.)
  • Make sure the product you’re buying contains 0% THC.
  • Be wary of lower-concentration products – they’re often cheaper, but anything with less than 1% CBD concentration probably isn’t going to have many benefits.
